Our investment in the future! This is how we see our latest project: our trainee flats. We have created a solution that counteracts the overcrowded Hamburg housing market, increases the team spirit of the trainees and directly benefits our future, our trainees of the Empire Riverside Hotel & Hotel Hafen Hamburg. We are very proud of the 36 flats in total and would like to tell you what the project is all about.
Trainees are essential for us as an employer and are of great importance for our hotel and for our sister hotel Hotel Hafen Hamburg. It is very meaningful to us that we pass on our knowledge and our values to our young team members. At the same time, we benefit from the unprejudiced views of the youngest generation of employees. Therefore, we want to give our young employees the best possible start in the working world.
We welcome our new team members every year in February and August. We are always delighted by the wide eyes and the beating of hearts, especially of the non-Hamburgers, when they look out over the port of Hamburg. Unfortunately, it's not only the breathtaking view that makes our trainees' hearts beat faster - finding a flat in Hamburg can also take your breath away. At traditional flat viewings, you usually have to fight with at least 50-150 other applicants to at least be allowed to give the landlord an application portfolio. On top of that, the rental costs in Hamburg are usually very high.
As a company, we prefer to tackle challenges proactively instead of letting them get us down. To solve the housing problem, we decided on a very special investment: Trainee flats in the middle of St. Pauli.
We are proud to be able to offer our flats directly to interested trainees. The first residents have already moved in.
Our total of 36 flats are located in a residential building, only about a 10-minute walk from our hotels. They are modern, furnished 19 m² 1-room flats, equipped with a shower room and a kitchenette with cooker, refrigerator and microwave. The flats are designed in a modern neighbourhood style that invites you to feel at home.
The technology installed in the apartment building seems almost futuristic. Residents can open and close their house and flat doors via app. Their friends can also be invited via this app, so they don't have to ring the doorbell late at night. Each resident also has a transponder that connects to the particular door, which can then be opened very easily if you have just come from shopping and have both hands full.
Our trainees can also take advantage of the location of our flats during their spare time. It takes no more than 13 minutes to walk to the Landungsbrücken and no more than 10 minutes by public transport to Hamburg city centre. So our trainees can live where you go on holiday...
Our trainees pay a fair rent for this and don't have to undergo any application or viewing fights. It is also a good way to quickly make contact with other trainees. This strengthens the team spirit and allows our young team members to arrive in peace and company in what is often their first flat of their own, possibly even in a new city. The apartment building has a communal kitchen in co-working style with a bar area including a large TV and a view of the neighbourhood, where friendships can be made quickly. The apartment building also has a laundry centre. Incidentally, the washing centre can also be easily operated via app - a clever feature that is sure to make other householders jealous. Unlike many conventional Hamburg flats, our trainee flats have permanently installed Wi-Fi in the flats and also in all public areas, as well as a bicycle cellar including an e-bike charging station. The residents of the apartment building want for nothing.
The management is very pleased that we can offer our apprentices such a unique opportunity:
„We want to make it as easy as possible for our apprentices and dual students to start their careers in the exciting hotel industry and are very proud of our stylish, practical and, above all, team-building apprentice flats. The apprenticeship in hotel and restaurant management as well as the job training as a chef offers many exciting new experiences and we think it is great to be able to support the apprentices and dual students of the Empire Riverside Hotel and the Hotel Hafen Hamburg in the best possible way on their way into professional life.”
Hotelmanager Enrico UngermannOur colleagues who take advantage of this offer describe their living situation as ideal, as they appreciate the short way to work and find it "very nice to live with the other trainees, as you naturally get to know each other better and it strengthens the team" - says our trainee Valerie Kothe, who, after 5 years abroad in the USA, was grateful that she was offered the flat directly in the job interview and therefore did not have to go on the difficult search. In the video, Valerie shows us her flat and gives us a look behind the scenes.
And the next time you hear the following lines: "The lights are still on in St. Pauli" - then one of our trainees or dual students has probably just made themselves comfortable at home at the end of the day.
