Just like the fish sandwiches at the Hamburg harbour or the Reeperbahn on the Kiez, in the same way our trainees belong to our hotel and are simply indispensable.
We are all the more pleased that our team is expanding again this year. We are happy to welcome ten new trainees at our hotel at the port of Hamburg and can hardly wait for the time together with them. One thing is certain: it will not be boring.
The year 2020 has been so far anything but easy for all of us and especially our industry has to struggle with the current situation. Nevertheless, we are looking forward positively and are all the more pleased that our two hotels have decided to invest in our future and to offer new and young talents, the start in the hotel business and a great education.
No matter whether you are a hotel specialist, a restaurant specialist or a cook, everyone will find their place and will not only get to know our Empire Riverside Hotel, but also our sister house, the Hotel Hafen Hamburg. This gives the trainees a wide range of insights.
During the training as a hotel specialist, you get to know all departments and become an absolute allrounder: Here you will find everything from reception, purchase or convencion department to service in the restaurant waterkant. First-class wine service, setting the table for a 5-course menu, perfect contact with guests and know-how at the highest level are among the tasks of the restaurant specialist. Our chefs can enjoy our exclusive show kitchen, cook in front of the guests and learn how to create high quality fish dishes. Nobody knows our hotels as well as our trainees, who after three years of apprenticeship have acquired such an extensive range of knowledge. Very important for us: That the fun and enjoyment for our trainees always comes first.
For our new apprentices, two orientation days were organized to give a small foretaste for all departments and to give the apprentices a very warm welcome. All department heads introduced themselves and their areas of responsibility in various presentation. They had two hotel tours as well and a lot of exciting information for the new trainees. The second day began with a rich breakfast. The night before, all trainees were allowed to spend the night in one of the hotels. They also get to know the basics of the apprenticeship, like for example writing the report portfolio or the strucuture of the training school. They were able to relax during dinner in our Port. To round off the two days perfectly, there was a boat tour at the beautiful port of Hamburg to get to know their new workplace from the water.
We are very curious how our new team members will enjoy it and how they will get used to their new workplace. The best thing is to get your own impression from one of our new trainees.
Ida is 19 years old and is doing her apprenticeship as an restaurant specialist. She told us about her first weeks at the Empire Riverside Hotel and what she is looking forward to the most.
