Let's rewind: The year 2022.

The new year has arrived and with it a new chapter in our lives. The year 2022 was like a wild roller coaster ride and began, unlike the previous year, full of energy. We got to spend the first hours of the year with our guests, and we had a blast celebrating together. Despite some challenges, 2022 was full of highlights that we are now looking back at. Take a look back at this unique year, full of memories with us.

What would the Empire Riverside Hotel be without a special campaign. Last January, we helped increase Germany's vaccination rate by cooperating with David Finest Sports Cars to turn our Skyline Bar 20up into a vaccination station. The unique offer generated a lot of enthusiasm, which is why we got off to a good start with fully booked seats. Those who wanted to be vaccinated were picked up from their homes and driven to us by their own chauffeur, where they were cared for and vaccinated by the doctors. Finally, there was the opportunity to enjoy a non-alcoholic cocktail in the beautiful skyline bar, 90 meters above the ground.
We are proud to have made a small contribution towards the end of the pandemic.
Our new sailors
Last February it was time to welcome our new apprentices. At the Empire Riverside Hotel as well as at our sister hotel, the Hotel Hafen Hamburg, seven new apprentices have started a new chapter in their lives. They spent the first week of their apprenticeship diving into the world of hospitality and gastronomy by getting to know the hotel from the point of view of our guests. Our new apprentices had the privilege to spend a night at the hotel and to have breakfast and dinner together, in order to get to know our food and beverage outlets. This allowed everyone to get to know each other a little bit better and to experience life from the point of view of a guest.
We are excited to see what the future holds for our new apprentices, and are glad to be part of this new chapter in their lives.
A new home for bees
Another highlight this year was the arrival of our bees. Together with the company PLACE4BEES, we welcomed around 120,00 bees, which have now moved into their new home on the third floor. These great bees not only give us delicious honey, they are also crucial to almost all ecosystems on our planet. Our little residents are visited weekly by beekeepers and are checked for their health as well as for their safety.

Our Greensign certificate
This year we have reached another milestone. The Empire Riverside Hotel as well as the Hotel Hafen Hamburg, has been considered a certified GreenSign Hotel since August 2022. This means that we were able to impress with our ecological, economic as well as social sustainability. The sustainability certificate, which is specifically designed for the hotel industry, has a catalog of criteria of 81 pages that includes different categories. We have already reached level 4 out of 5.
Despite this, we are constantly developing in order to contribute to climate protection and to save resources, whether it is water, energy or human resources.
Welcome to the waterkant
In August 2022, we were again pleased to welcome new apprentices to our two hotels.
A total of seven new young talents have started a new chapter in the professions of hotel specialists, cooks and specialists for restaurant and event catering. In order to welcome our new apprentices and to give them the opportunity to get to know the hotels well, two orientation days were planned where our newcomers were able to experience the hotels from the point of view oft the guests. In addition to the overnight stay, the joint breakfast in the Waterkant and the three-course menu in the restaurant Port, at the Hotel Hafen Hamburg, all departments introduced themselves to the new team members in order to give them a better insight. Our trainee representatives also introduced themselves to the new apprentices and offered themselves as contact persons for any questions.
Summerparty 2022 - the highlight of our summer
After our summer party unfortunately had to be cancelled the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we had an even more valid reason to celebrate! Together with our sister hotel, the Hotel Hafen Hamburg, as well as our external partners, we were able to toast the good, close teamwork and enjoy an evening full of fun and joy!
The summer party took place at Strand Pauli and was a great success with the varied Buffet, the long drink offer, as well as the tombola, photo box and the creative station organised by our trainees. The proceeds of the tombola were donated to the St. Pauli Church for a good cause. The atmosphere at Strand Pauli and the sunny weather, which showed Hamburg from its best side, contributed to the ultimate summer feeling. The summer party was not only an unforgettable day full of fun, happiness and laughter, but also a time of bonding between our employees!
Trip to the coast
In October, our third-year apprentices went on a three-day trip to East Frisia. On site, our apprentices explored the coastal towns of Greetsiel and Schillig and had a variety of activities planned. In addition to a tour through a fish production plant, a bowling night, a mudflat hike through the national park as well as a visit to the Klimahaus in Bremerhaven, the apprentices were allowed to take part in a traditional East Frisian tea ceremony.

We are happy that we were once again able to start the new year together and spend the first hours of 2023 with the great company of our guests at our New Year's Eve events. We enjoyed the time full of fun and good humour and celebrated properly! Whether at our "LIQUID Party", the culinary event "... and the beat goes 20up" in the waterkant or at the "Skyparty" in the Skyline Bar 20up, it was an unforgettable time that we will remember with pleasure and joy.
